Residents get together to clean up Parit Bakar

MUAR: A joint project to clean up drains, garbage and undergrowth in the small town of Parit Bakar here marked the first anniversary of PAS’ win of the Maharani state seat.

The programme, initiated by Maharani assemblyman Dr Mohammed Taslim from Muar PAS, saw the participation of local residents, the Fire and Rescue De

partment, municipal council and Health Department.

PAS action council director for the Maharani zone Abu Bakar Ismail said that besides party members, many Umno members also participated in the event.

“Our aim is to clean up the drains here as some are clogged with garbage, dirt and sludge.

“Some vacant plots here are covered wit

h thick undergrowth and bushes and we want to clear them,” he said.

Abu Bakar said that with the rise in dengue, malaria and chikungunya cases, it was timely for the residents to clean up the town.

He also urged plot owners to clear their plots regularly.

Mohammed thanked the residents, party members and the departments for participating in the programme.

“We plan to organise similar programmes for other areas in Maharani as we want to promote healthy living among the residents,” he added.
