MUAR: Some 35 needy people in the Maharani constituency here received cash and food aid from their assemblyman Dr Mohamad Taslim, recently.
Among them were three people who could not walk, including Zalinah Ibrahim, who suffers from diabetes and had her right leg amputated.
Dr Mohamad said the aid was aimed at easing the plight of the poor, especially in and around Parit Raja Laut in the Maharani constituency.
“We have made it an agenda to provide whatever assistance we can to help the people, especially those in the villages.
“For the school-going children, we give them educational needs, including uniforms and bags, every year,” he said after presenting the aid and three wheelchairs to the needy recently.
Dr Mohamad, from the Muar PAS division, said all the poor in the constituency also received aid from the state government and relevant departments.
He said they were fortunate to have a caring Government, which provided aid to those in need regardless of race and religion.
As a PAS member, he had limited funds and resources to help the people, but as a responsible representative, he would try to help them.
He said any villager in Maharani could come to his service centre in Parit Bakar or Klinik Mohamad in Muar town if they needed any assistance.
Meanwhile, Zalinah, 54, said she suffered from diabetes for 12 years and last year, she had to undergo an operation to amputate her right leg.
“I have been depending of my children to move around in the house and now, with the wheelchair, I can do without their help.
“I am very grateful to Dr Mohamad for giving me a wheelchair,” she added.
